Richard Kern TV Takeover / John Lydon and Keith Levene on Tom Snyder (1980)

Richard Kern TV Takeover / John Lydon and Keith Levene on Tom Snyder (1980) by The Tom Snyder Show

“TThe Sex Pistols, led by nihilistic word fountain Johnny Rotten, popularized hate, destruction and anarchy with their conceptually perfect album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. The band imploded on their 1978 tour but John Lydon (Rotten) returned with Public Image Limited (PIL) in response to what he saw as his public’s need for something new to swallow. This 1980 appearance on the Tom Snyder show was the first chance for American fans (myself included) to see and hear Lydon and Keith Lavene talk about this project. It was fun to watch an arrogant and confused Snyder again and again get one-upped by Lydon’s subtle digs and Lavene’s description of what was at this time a new concept: Artistic Endeavor as Entertainment Corporation.” – Richard Kern
