James Chance / These Foolish Things (1988)

James Chance / These Foolish Things (1988) by Simon Bocanegra

Tomas Doncker’s label, True Groove Records have recently signed No Wave icon James Chance. A record is scheduled for later this year. The True Groove All-Stars kicked off his new path with a cover of James Brown’s classic “I Don’t Want Nobody” featuring Chance on vocals, which you can listen to here. Purple celebrates his return with this video “These Foolish Things,” as performed by James Chance with Judy Taylor. The video was shot in fall 1987 in NYC photographed by Simon Bocanegra. The moody effects were achieved by shooting the image reflected in a large water puddle down by one of the old piers in the West Village. The song is from the James White & the Blacks album, Melt Yourself Down, on Selfish Records (Japan only).
