Mal-Aimée – “L’écorcée” Fall Winter 2012 By Kate Barry by Kate Barry

This short was created for the french fashion label Mal Aimee by director Kate Barry who discovered the brand during a shoot with her sister Charlotte Gainsbourg. They both loved the pieces and the idea of an artistic collaboration started from there. The film features the track La Foret by Lescop which was a major influence on the film in its own right. “We wanted to play with lights for the movie and the binary rhythm of Lescop’s song was perfect for that. The fact that it is written in French was also a strong point, because at Mal-Aimee, everything is made in France” The dancer in the film is Alexandra Bansch who has her own dance company called Danse Theatre Paris.

The visual inspirations for the video “In this movie campaign, we show our vision of women, what inspires us more which is the ambivalence of women. All those contradictions of femininity. The MAL-AIMEE woman has that wonderful pull-push of being sure of themselves, until one word, one glance of a great man, questions everything… A flame that flickers.”
