Coney Island at Night 1905

Coney Island at Night 1905 by Edwin S. Porter

For Purple Fashion Magazine #20 we shot model Lily McMenamy in Coney Island. Coney Island has always been a place for getting away. One hundred years ago it was a place for hunting, then for recreation, before becoming a New York City landmark and one of the last historical amusement parks. We look at Coney Island from 1905, a black and white silent film by Edwin S. Porter. This film uses time exposure to show Coney Island at night, from Luna Park to Dreamland. Panning left, brilliant lights come into view, defining a long, narrow strip of rides and attractions.

35mm print, black and white, silent
