Skydiver (Part 9)

Skydiver (Part 9) by Eugene Kotlyarenko

Part 9 of LA-based filmmaker Eugene Kotlyarenko’s Skydiver is part of an 11-part series released in 2010 through jstchillin.org a year-long, online exhibition space, and the Digital Expressionism series at The Suzanne Geiss Company.

Recently premiered in feature length at The Suzanne Geiss Company, Skydiver uses video chat, browsers, and iOS for its mise-en-scene, and follows Kotlyarenko as he goes into a deeper and darker path. “It is interested in love, friendship, performance, death, truth, terrorism, music, computers, desperation, belief, paranoia, vanity, and the way we interact now,” says Kotlyarenko. Kotlyarenko turned to friends, family, and lovers to act in the film, only he didn’t tell them their conversations were being used for a movie. The result makes for a startlingly naturalistic depiction of human relationships in the 21st century.
