RAYMOND PETTIBON, NO TITLE (I WORK UPSTAIRS), 2011 PEN, INK, AND GOUACHE ON PAPER

American artist Raymond Pettibon got his start in the early 1980s by creating posters and album covers for the southern california punk rock group Black Flag and the SST record label. His endless flux of anarchist, anti-authoritarian drawings and words emerges from his obsessive reading of american newspapers, comic books, and novels. As an icon of the underground scene, he elevated subculture to the highest level of contemporary art.
