Susanne Deeken

photographed by OLIVIER ZAHM

The first thing Susanne Deeken did after graduating from high school was to flee her small town in northern Germany to join her Danish boyfriend in Copenhagen, where she studied art. In 1991 Susanne moved to London and switched to fashion and styling, studying at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She soon became involved in London’s emerging alternative fashion scene, along with the designers Lutz, Alexander McQueen, and Hussein Chalayan, and the photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Still passionate about fashion, Susanne has since become a sought-after consultant for designers. Over the past ten years she has devoted a lot of her time and energy to Marc by Marc Jacobs, as well as to other designers in London, Paris, and New York. She was photographed at her London home, where her personal style and creative intuition are revealed in its eclectic mix of English country furnishings, antiques, and flea-market paintings.
