Rosemarie Trockel at Gladstone Gallery, New York
Rosemarie Trockel’s latest body of work subverts ideas of technique and femininity. Paintings composed of wool, one of Trockel’s most well known materials, create a deceptive new mode for traditional formats in art. Elsewhere in the space, what appears to be a large sofa covered in a plastic sheet is actually a cast sculpture. Again, Trockel deceives the viewer and the expectation for materials. The artist’s actions can go easily undetected without further examination and serve as a statement on mass production and craft.
