Meret Oppenheim: Retrospective at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin

Pelzhandschuhe from 1939 by Meret Oppenheim is on view now at the Meret Oppenheim: Retrospective at Martin-Gropius-Bau. To celebrate the centenary of Meret Oppenheim’s birth in Berlin on October 6, Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin is dedicating a first major retrospective to the artist. Her masterpiece Le Déjeuner en fourrure from 1936, a teacup, saucer and spoon covered with fur, catapulted her to Surrealist fame. Starting out from her much appraised early work in the circle of the surrealists and proceeding to her less well-known poetic late work, the exhibition will show not only drawings, paintings, objects and collages, but also her writings and dream notations as well as her humorous and fantastical jewellery, dress and other designs. Meret Oppenheim: Retrospective is on view until December 1st at at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Niederkirchnerstraße 7, 10963 Berlin. Photo Stefan Altenburger
