Maria Petschnig at OnStellarRays, New York
Maria Petschnig’s new solo exhibition at On Stellar Rays functions as a voyeuristic tour expressed through light, texture and sound. Video of anonymous bodies wrapped in fabric and provocative mattress sculptures fill the dimly lit exhibition. Petschnig enhances the viewer experience by re-imagining the gallery space as a winding room covered in wooden paneling to create a perverse domestic environment. The powerful show handles themes of gender with a keen understanding of the body and sexuality. Petschnigs’ is on view through June 16th 2013 at On Stellar Rays, 133 Orchard Street, New York.
