Artist Huang Yong Ping rebellious exhibition at Gladstone Gallery aims to merge politics, art and religion. This interest in the corruption of modern existance was seen recently in much more fantastical terms at The Pace Gallery's Edward Kienholz exhibition. Yong Ping's large scale installation filled with headless taxidermied animals underneath a wooden floating hand suggests an unknown power holding their spirits captive. The bizarre community of wild animals wandering without direction suggests the loss of true authority and balance in the chain of command. Circus is on view through January 19th 2013 at Gladstone Gallery, 530 West 21st Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
