Christian Boltanski “Éphémères” exhibition at Marian Goodman Gallery, London

Conceived as a complete installation, “Éphémères” is Christian Boltanski’s first solo show in London since 2010. Through different medias such as photography, film, and sculpture, Boltanski creates large-scale installations about communal memories and identities.

It is on the occasion of this exhibition that the artist presents his new film installation, “Éphémères (Mayflies)”, 2018 and “Misterios (Mysteries)”, 2017. Monumental film installation “Animitas (small souls)”, shown in the 2015 Venice Biennale is also on display in this exhibition.

The French artist invites us to a journey into his own imagination, as well as that of the visitor. In this exhibition-installation, we are invited to move as in a dream. We advance step by step, pushing the veils of the work “La Traversée de la vie (The Crossing of Life)” in which photographs from the 1950s has been enlarged and printed onto these veils. We are constantly solicited by dreams and reminiscences. The work “Départ-Arrivée”, 2015 refers to the beginning and the end, the two points of the cycle of life and also the structure of this exhibition.

“Éphémères” is on view until May 12th, 2018 at Marian Goodman Gallery, 5-8 Lower John Street, London.
